satero e ankhar
age: appears mid-30s
nicknames: Shy, Stranger, Shallow(s), Paradox
appearance:
stupid huge and tall (6’7”), grey eyes, sharp teeth.
later stabs out his own left eye like the champion he is and knowing him probably eats it too.
background:
there is about 800 years’ worth of history in satero’s story, as he became immortal in his mid-30s. the rest of his life has just been him stumbling around being a miserable, drunken jackass.
personality:
used to be halfway decent and normal. unfortunately also had cripplingly low self-esteem, was unhealthily obsessive, and constantly fluctuated between extremes. he also had a bad tendency towards worshipping and then destroying the things he loved, in some strange, misguided attempt to make them attainable in his own mind.
eventually he degrades completely and begins to spiral into total madness. so now:
satero is unpredictably savage and violent, has a lot of weird habits and compulsions and fears, and is victim to crippling paranoia. he gives zero shits about what is socially acceptable behavior nowadays and pretty much does whatever he wants, even if that involves beating someone into a coma just because he feels like it.
he has a lot of problems. he doesn’t know what half of them are and certainly doesn’t know how to deal with them, so he copes by lashing out at literally everyone and everything. satero is about 90% undirected and confused fury.
he’s not quite completely insane yet, though he’s definitely getting there. he’s just lucid enough to realize that this is the case. he’s terrified of losing his mind, but he’s also reaching that point where he can no longer recognize what insanity even is.
he still has highly self-destructive tendencies.
he is a very angry and miserable person.
relationships:
satero fell in love with one corosa e ankhar, a mercenary-turned-mysterious-deitylike-being. this was not reciprocated, and satero eventually broke corosa by dumping him into the sea. this is a horrible thing because corosa resurrects after every death, but being stuck at the bottom of the ocean means he’s trapped in a cycle of dying and resurrecting. he’s been down there for about 800 years now and hasn’t been heard from at all. these days satero is terrified of the very idea/memory of corosa, water, and anything vaguely nautical-themed.
mukhari sharak is the only person in the world who can calm satero down and keep him under control, and mukhari sharak doesn’t like this job much. in fact mukhari sharak tries to avoid being in the same hemisphere as satero if at all possible. however, mukhari has always been a huge marshmallow and has always allowed satero to push him around and make the decisions for him, and he’s having some serious trouble growing a spine.
soothe was a little girl who was sort of adopted by satero & friends way back when. she was left behind and forgotten when shit started to go down, but later in her adulthood she made an immortality contract and immediately set upon trying to rescue corosa from the bottom of the sea. when satero finds out that she’s doing this, he kills her.
ian e ankhar is satero’s one and only son, though satero can’t recall how he was conceived for the life of him. satero doesn’t even know that ian exists until ian’s in his mid-thirties. they do not get along well. in fact, ian is kind of embarrassed to be related to satero and vice-versa. also satero tries to kill ian several times, so that kind of put a dent in their father-son relationship.
bariyan e kodhi was a good friend of corosa’s and, at one point, a good friend of satero’s. then satero started to exhibit unpleasant qualities and bariyan decided that maybe satero wasn’t such a great person after all, so they drifted apart. by the time satero gets into his habit of indiscriminate murder, bariyan’s already well and far away. when their paths do cross again they are most definitely not friends and bariyan wants nothing to do with him.
ghost was/is possibly the person satero loathed/loathes most in the world, even though they were very similar at heart. ghost didn’t like satero much either. the two of them were constantly at each other’s throats until ghost abruptly vanished from everyone’s lives and was never heard from again. satero still hates him anyway.
