d (wayfarer)

age: immortal, and it’s kind of hard to pinpoint even his age of appearance… somewhere in a nebulous 20-30s range
origins: somewhere in kharta circa almost the very beginning of time. this makes him somewhat younger than his counterpart, ro.
appearance: lean, dresses in black and white and neutral colors, very white teeth and eyes. also often wears a ridiculously broad-brimmed hat that throws his entire face in shadow or, at the very least, his eyes. often accompanied by a flock of black birds of indeterminate species.

background
for the most part, non-existent. d has rarely, if ever, divulged any information about himself or his past to anyone else. his background is only known through the eyes of others, chief amongst them ro, who is the only sentient being older than d. but it’s hard to track ro down and she isn’t ever very interested in talking about d.

he certainly came from somewhere in the khartan desert, many hundreds or thousands of years ago. and that is about all that is known for sure.

personality:
almost as enigmatic as his past!

d is highly secretive. he doesn’t talk about himself, his goals, his wants or his needs, his past or his present or his future, or anything much at all. he doesn’t answer questions. he is very polite and cordial if not friendly, and he smiles a lot, and in the end, he says very little.

he is very calm and he gets angry maybe once every couple hundred years. maybe. and even if he does, he does an extremely good job of hiding it.

he is also a master of manipulating, betraying, and using people to further his own goals. his capability for sorrow and remorse is questionable. his capability for love and care is equally questionable. ro likes to keep an eye on the people whom befriend D, because she knows that sooner or later they will probably be thrown headfirst into a whole world of pain.

relationships:
ro is the counterpart heartlander to D’s role as wayfarer, and they refer to one another as siblings fairly often even though they are not related by blood. she and D maintain a working but strained and slightly hostile relationship. she disapproves of many things about D, thinks that he is a bad person, bullies him when she can, likes to disagree with him just for the sake of disagreement, and still understands him better than anyone else. D, for his part, also trusts ro more than he ever has or ever will trust anyone else. when he needs to. but usually they just clash with one another.

wraith was in a relationship with D at one point, but D made some very bad decisions during that time that wound up in him killing nearly all of wraith’s friends. he tried to keep this secret from wraith for a while, and while wraith never quites confirmed D’s roles in most of those tragedies, he strongly suspected it anyway and decided that D was altogether too much for him to handle. they parted ways (forcibly, with Ro’s help) for a couple centuries until wraith found himself in need of D’s help. essentially, he needed D’s help to die.

serat was one of wraith’s friends whom didn’t like D very much at all and convinced himself that D was going to wind up destroying wraith by the end of their relationship. so he fought for wraith’s life! ie, he stepped in and challenged D to what became a long, drawn-out one-on-one war between the two of them. unfortunately, serat lost.

saysul estovor was once a friend of D’s, back when D was practically still a child and saysul was definitely just a child. but saysul disappeared for a long period of time and D forgot about him, until saysul suddenly showed up again. by then D had become militant about erasing all trace of his past and, therefore, had a duty to himself to erase the bit of it that saysul still carried around in his memories. so D killed saysul, and locked away the immortal creature that had been the lifeforce behind saysul and his entirely family tree. the immortal was and still is very unhappy about this.

corosa nyem trusted D and probably thought of D as a friend, though the same certainly can’t be said for D. but corosa also never figured out that D was a lot more than he appeared to be and pretty much took D for granted and did not suspect any ulterior motives, so whatever role D may have played in corosa’s downfall was never revealed.

bariyan e kodhi is a friend of D’s and, surprisingly, that relationship is likely reciprocated! at least, D spends a whole lot of time in bariyan’s company and actually goes out of his way to try and help bariyan when he can. more importantly, D has gone out of his way to not screw bariyan over, even when it would have been beneficial to him to do so. ro is as confounded by this mutual friendship as anyone else but repeated attempts to extract an explanation out of bariyan have ended in non-answers and distractions in the form of baked goods.

on the other hand, catsovi e viciro dislikes and mistrusts D very intensely and always has. he is not at all happy that the love of his life is on such good terms with D! he is also possibly just a little bit jealous, especially since bariyan refuses to talk much about D or why they are such good friends, but you’ll never get catsovi to admit that. in any case, catsovi becomes very cranky and ill-tempered when D is around and appears to be hunting for an excuse to vilify the man. this dislike may or may not turn into bitter all-consuming hatred later on due to sad happenings.
